Leadership Giving Officer

OVERVIEW:
Operating in its 25th year, Free Speech TV (FSTV) is a national, nonprofit, independent news network whose mission is to empower an informed and active citizenry to build a more just, equitable world. Powered by their viewers, FSTV amplifies the voices not heard on the corporate networks and lifts up the efforts of everyday people working on the front lines of racial, economic, and environmental justice. FSTV seeks a like-minded and capable Major Gifts Officer to help the organization advance social change and operate in service to the broader social justice movement. Reporting to Development Director Kristi Frahm Gallagher, the MGO will have the privilege of partnering with an energized, impassioned, and loyal donor base to realize social impact through philanthropy. The MGO will be responsible for carrying a national major gift portfolio, leveraging FSTV’s robust donor base of 20,000+ active supporters to solicit both restricted and unrestricted dollars. The MGO will support FSTV’s efforts to expand its growth and move management within the major giving spectrum.
LOCATION:
The Leadership Giving Officer will work in a hybrid structure out of FSTV’s Denver, CO headquarters.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $50,000 based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, short-term/long-term disability insurance, generous paid time off, 401k retirement plan..
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The successful candidate for the Leadership Giving Officer will be a mission-driven fundraiser with a deep commitment to building a more inclusive, just and equitable society. They will bring experience in the science of fundraising and moves management, with a track record in individual fundraising and an authentic donor engagement style. They will also be a natural collaborator with an entrepreneurial approach that is grounded in evidence-based practices, and a strategic thinker with a data-driven mindset. The LGO will join a collaborative and supportive five-person development team with fundraising activity occurring across a wide spectrum including foundation grants, planned gifts, major gifts ($10K+), mid-level gifts ($1K - $9999) and small gifts from direct appeals and quarterly pledge drives that typically engage 1,000 new donors per drive. Given that recent wealth screenings indicate that mid-level gifts represent a significant area of opportunity for FSTV, the LGO will focus their attention on engaging, cultivating, and soliciting mid-level donor prospects, with the aim of upgrading gift sizes over time. Many such gifts will be leveraged during pledge drives as “matching” gifts or “donor challenges” to incentivize donors making smaller gifts. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Development Director: • Build and manage a personal portfolio of 150-200mid-level donors and prospects, actively cultivating, researching, qualifying, and soliciting individuals, with an eye to upgrading gifts over time. • Secure gifts for “matches” and “donor challenges” to incentivize small gifts during pledge drives and other appeals. • Coordinate and facilitate donor events, working with other members of the development and technical teams. • Collaborate with other staff, within the Development team and across FSTV, to grow the mid-level donor base and foster engagement of donors and prospects. • Operate with complete transparency, document all moves management activities in appropriate locations and in a timely fashion; communicate with leadership regarding critical donor interactions; escalate situations when appropriate. • Ensure donors are appropriately acknowledged; consistently report on restricted use gift spending. • Track and analyze donor data, using the CRM database (Salesforce), wealth screening tools (WealthEngine), and any other data systems. • Maintain working knowledge of current events, politics, and the progressive movement. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Development Director. 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  Personal commitment to FSTV’s mission and values; an understanding of the progressive movement, current events, and the role that structural racism has played in our society. 
  • Minimum of three years nonprofit fundraising experience, with a proven track record of achieving ambitious, increasing revenue targets.
  • Working knowledge of best practices in individual fundraising.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with office technology and information systems (eg, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs). Experience with CRM data management (eg Salesforce for Nonprofits) and wealth screening tools (WealthEngine) is ideal.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, tactfulness, good judgment, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. 
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrating personal initiative, responsibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to results; meet deadlines consistently.
  • Superb organization skills, commitment to operating with transparency, and a commitment to strict data hygiene practices. 
  • Collegiality and a good sense of humor; employing a welcoming, collaborative approach and a strong team-oriented style.
