The Sanders Institute National Priorities

The federal government is open again, at least for the next few weeks, but Republicans did not include legislation to protect young undocumented immigrants known as “dreamers” from deportation. It also kicked down the road more permanent budget negotiations, instead passing three short-term spending deals since October 1.

So how did we get into this mess? The underlying issue isn't just the tradeoff between protecting hundreds of thousands immigrants from deportation or funding Trump’s border wall. It's also -- more basically -- a question of how much more we spend on the military versus middle-class and working families.
