The new Poor People's Campaign, launched with great fanfare earlier this year, has ramped up its activism around the nation. Thousands of activists have spent the last few weeks gathering in cities large and small around the country, blocking traffic, conducting sit-ins and other forms of civil disobedience, and holding rallies in the lead up to a major gathering in Washington D.C. this weekend.

Many prominent leaders in the movement have faced arrest and are invoking the moral position that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. took before his life was cut short, in pushing for a Poor People's Campaign in the late 1960s. Under the banner of "Unite the Poor," the modern-day version of the Poor People's Campaign seeks to address issues related to poverty, democracy, and more.

Sonali discusses the new campaign with Rev. Graylen Hagler, senior pastor at the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, D.C. and chairperson of Faith Strategies.
