The state of Kentucky has essentially banned abortion. New law forces all remaining abortion providers to shut down due to some new restrictions. Abortions will not be allowed after 15 weeks of pregnancy, minors will have restricted access to the procedure, and there is now a crackdown on medications that terminate early pregnancies. This is arguably the strictest policy on abortion any state has come up with, and it is almost certainly in violation of the landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court case. However, with the court possibly ready to strike down Roe vs. Wade in the coming weeks, Kentucky and a handful of other states will be prepared with their draconian new policies. This is the consequence of Donald Trump getting four years as president and being able to put three right-wing justices on the court. Perhaps the Supreme Court will keep Roe vs. Wade, but it’s not a safe bet, with six out of the nine current justices being conservative.
