Joe Biden is under fire because he said the MAGA movement is the most extreme political group in modern American history. The president was speaking about the expectation that the Supreme Court will strike down Roe vs. Wade and the damage that it’d do. Biden said, “what are the next things that are going to be attacked? Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that’s existed in American history — in recent American history.” President Biden really doesn’t deserve any blowback over this statement because it’s an accurate one. Certainly, there are groups of people who are more outright racist and xenophobic like the KKK for example. But even at their peak, the KKK’s membership numbers were dwarfed by the tens of millions of people who are currently radical Trump supporters. Perhaps we need to go all the way back to the Confederacy to come up with a movement that has been so damaging to the United States and its institutions.
