Sonali Kolhatar speaks with David Dayen, who is the executive editor of The American Prospect.
His work has appeared in The Intercept, The New Republic, HuffPost, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and more. His first book, Chain of Title: How Three Ordinary Americans Uncovered Wall Street's Great Foreclosure Fraud, winner of the Studs and Ida Terkel Prize, was released by The New Press in 2016.
President Donald Trump has decided that the thousands of people disobeying Stay-at-Home quarantine orders around the country in the midst of a dangerous pandemic are, “great people.” From Annapolis, Maryland to San Diego, California, pro-Trump protesters are demanding “Give me Liberty or Give Me Death,” labeling quarantine orders as “tyranny.”
Meanwhile, there is little critique about the failure of the government to help ordinary Americans as millions lose employment and healthcare, cannot pay rent or mortgage and suffer from food insecurity.
Rising Up with Sonali is a radio and television show that brings progressive news coverage rooted in gender and racial justice to a wide audience. Rising Up With Sonali was built on the foundation of Sonali Kolhatkar's earlier show, Uprising, which became the longest-running drive-time radio show on KPFK in Los Angeles hosted by a woman. RUS airs on Free Speech TV every weekday.
