Donald Trump’s reaction to the January 6th congressional committee appears to be a clear-cut case of witness tampering. CNN’s Brianna Kellar asked committee member Representative Pete Aguilar about this by mentioning Trump’s recent promise to pardon January 6th defendants if he gets back in the White House. Aguilar called Trump’s remarks “absolutely” witness tampering and said it was an indictment of the Republican Party that they won’t reprimand him over this.
The congressman asked “when is enough? When a mob is chanting ‘hang Mike Pence’ it wasn’t enough. When the former president asked Brad Raffensperger to find him 11,000 votes it wasn’t enough. Now he’s dangling pardons if he gets back in the office for individuals. Will that be enough or will there be more collective amnesia?” Trump has a long history of tampering with investigations as was seen with the Russia and Ukraine probes. Clearly, he hasn’t learned his lesson, and ultimately, it may be the job of Congress and the Department of Justice to teach him one.
