Donald Trump has suggested that the 2020 presidential election be delayed. He is now saying it. This is not a dress rehearsal. Donald Trump tweeted,
"With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”
Absentee ballots and mail-in voting are the same thing this election cycle. Trump votes by mail, as do his family and staff. This is Trump admitting that he is losing and he is desperate. Delaying a presidential election is what right-wingers said Barack Obama would do, and of course he never did.
Now, Trump is suggesting that’s what he wants to do and those same Republicans who accused Obama are silent. We have seen authoritarian tendencies from Trump over the past three years and they have accelerated over the past three months. This is dangerous and the country needs to hold firm against Trump trying to do this.
