Donald Trump is back in campaign mode and he’s trying his best to keep Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in check and prevent him from launching a presidential campaign of his own in 2024. According to reporting from Axios, Trump is attacking Ron DeSantis in private discussions, saying he has a "dull personality” with no chance of beating him in a Republican primary.
The ex-POTUS has thrown a number of veiled jabs at DeSantis in recent weeks, hinting it was wrong for the Florida governor to play coy about his vaccination status and claiming he would be nowhere today without Trump’s endorsement. While Trump comes out on top in polls about who Republicans want as their nominee for president in 2024, DeSantis is not far behind.
Roger Stone is now doing Trump’s dirty work, saying DeSantis was “an unknown congressman with a bad haircut, an ill-fitting suit, and an undistinguished record in Congress.” Hopefully, the battle between Trump and DeSantis heats up over the next year or two, as that would be a fascinating showdown to observe and likely help Democrats in the general election.
