Donald Trump posted a video attacking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, now the ex-president’s chief political rival. Reports suggest a movement within the Trump camp to crush DeSantis before he even announces his intention to run for the 2024 presidency, aiming to get him to not run at all. Trump said in the video, “Ron's poll numbers are dropping so fast and furious that many people are speculating he's not going to run.” Clearly, Trump wants an easy path to the nomination and to face off solely against lower-polling candidates. While Trump is polling well, DeSantis is still polling in second place, making it difficult for him to pass up a run for the presidency. The situation is complicated, as even if DeSantis only polls at 24%, a presidential run would still give him more national attention, and he could potentially build upon his numbers. DeSantis still has some time to make his ultimate decision, but he seems determined to carry forward and follow through with the national campaign.
