Saturday was the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th attacks and Donald Trump spent his evening doing commentary for a boxing match. President Biden and former Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton attended and spoke at a number of events and commemorations. Trump stopped by the World Trade Center site without participating in any of the events and then made his way to Hollywood, Florida to do a paid boxing commentary gig. The match was between mixed martial artist Vitor Belfort and a 58-year-old Evander Holyfield that was billed as the “most anticipated heavyweight fight of the year” with “full live in person commentary by President Trump.” Donald Trump Jr. was also there to provide analysis alongside his father. The commentary was not insightful at all, which should come as no surprise since the Trumps know next to nothing about boxing and this was simply a grift to sell pay-per-view tickets. But the bottom line is that if Biden, Obama, or any other prominent Democratic politician had spent their 9/11 doing boxing commentary, the right-wing would never let them hear the end of it. Trump, who bragged about his building becoming the tallest in Lower Manhattan once the twin towers collapsed, was able to spend his night making money off a boxing match with zero criticism from his fellow conservatives.
