It wasn't just a speech in North Carolina that Donald Trump gave this weekend. The former president also recorded a Republican fundraising video wherein he once again spoke about taking back the White House “sooner than you think.” Some argue this is just Trump saying he will get elected to a second term in 2024, but given the context of everything going on, it suggests he’s telling people to prepare for a reinstatement. The New York Times’s Maggie Haberman reported last week that Trump is regularly talking about how he’s going to come back to power by August. Now, he’s told the Republican fundraising organization: “We’re gonna take back the Senate, take back the House, we’re gonna take back the White House – and sooner than you think. It’s going to be really something special.” There are two main possibilities here: Either Trump has been convinced by Mike Lindell and other voter fraud theory propagators that this is a real possibility. Or, Trump knows it can’t happen but he’s appealing to his conspiratorial base of supporters who think it actually could. It’s totally possible that Trump runs again in 2024 and wins a second term, but there is no constitutional process that would allow him to return before then.
