Newsmax host Greg Kelly has an idea to unite the country to pardon and forgive the January 6th rioters. Kelly put up a picture of inmates arrested for storming the Capitol and called President Biden to get them out of jail. Kelly said on his program, “you know if he wanted to unify this country, on January 21st, after he made that solemn pledge, his whole soul was in it, to unify us, he could have gone to that jail and made arrangements for them to be let go.” Kelly’s take is dumb for several reasons. First, no one believes that if the situation were reversed, Donald Trump would have pardoned people who rioted and tried to overturn the election for Joe Biden. But also, it would not have unified the country if Biden had let these inmates free since most of the country thinks what happened on January 6th was a tragedy and an embarrassment, and they want to see consequences for the rioters.
