The #FreeBritney movement has brought much needed attention to the conservatorship system, but many people say this is a disability rights issue that has long needed closer scrutiny. An estimated 1.5 million Americans are under some form of a conservatorship, where a court appoints a third party to make personal, financial and medical decisions for them. Many of these people are disabled adults who advocates say have been stripped of their rights.
