More and more Republicans are saying that Donald Trump is not going to be their presidential nominee in 2024. We already knew about former Vice President Mike Pence turning on Trump and not committing to backing him, saying “there might be somebody else I’d prefer more.” Now, former House Speaker Paul Ryan has chimed in, saying, “I think Trump’s unelectability will be palpable by then. We all know he will lose. Or let me put it this way: We all know he’s much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle. So why would we want to go with that?” Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush weighed in and said by 2024, Republicans will want “a new generation of leadership in our country.” Trump could certainly still end up being the nominee but he may have a more difficult path to the nomination than he realizes.
