During his Presidential campaign in 2016, Donald Trump promised he would never cut Social Security and claimed he was the only Republican candidate to do so.
But since then Trump has made several overtures toward cutting the program that most Americans rely on. In fact, most recently when Congress failed to come to an agreement on a Covid-19 economic relief bill Trump used the pandemic as cover by signing an executive order to defer payroll taxes that fund Social Security. He has even gone as far as promising to make those deferments permanent if he wins the November 3rd election.
