During another day of the January 6th hearings, Vice Chair Liz Cheney announced that Donald Trump recently attempted to intimidate an unidentified witness and that the matter has been referred to the Department of Justice. Cheney said, “President Trump tried to call a witness in our investigation, a witness you have not yet seen in these hearings. That person declined to answer or respond to President Trump’s call and instead alerted their lawyer to the call. Their lawyer alerted us and this committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice.” The question becomes whether Trump left a voicemail that can actually become hard evidence of witness tampering, or if the record simply shows a missed call. In any event, the average person would likely be prosecuted for such an attempt to impede an investigation but Trump has gotten away with so much, he’ll continue to do things like this until he finally faces consequences.
