At this point, it seems unlikely that Joe Biden will be running for a second term as president. Ever since he launched his 2020 run, there have been questions over whether Biden would seek a second term if he captured the White House for a first term. Biden will be 82 years old on Inauguration Day 2025 and 86 by the time his second term would be over.
The position of the White House has long been that the president “intends to” run again, leaving the room to back out of that commitment at any time. Case in point, Kamala Harris had to walk back recent comments she made about their plans for 2024. The vice president said on CNN, “Joe Biden is running for reelection and I will be his ticket mate.” Soon after, her office had to put out a correction saying that Biden “intends to” run. It’s understandable if Biden doesn’t want to run again, but Democrats need to come up with a definitive plan soon if they want to appear competent going into the next election cycle.
