Former New York Times reporter Bari Weiss went on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” with Brian Stelter to criticize the left-wing and mainstream media. Conservatives are hailing Weiss’s performance as a smackdown of Stelter and CNN but her talking points were largely hyperbolic and they didn’t all add up. She wrote in her “Common Sense” Substack post, “there are tens of millions of Americans who aren’t on the hard left or the hard right who feel that the world has gone mad.” When asked on CNN to provide some examples, Weiss started off well by saying the COVID lab leak hypothesis should not be written off as a racist conspiracy theory. But then she went overboard by pretending it’s a standard left-wing position that there are zero differences between men and women. Weiss also criticized being “not allowed to acknowledge that rioting is rioting and it is bad” and “in the name of progress, young school children, as young as kindergarten, being separated because of their race.” Most of the examples Weiss provided were fringe cases that do not in anyway represent mainstream left-wing opinions and to pretend like they do is disingenuous.
