At least eight Republicans who were at the January 6th “Save America” rally in Washington DC, were elected to government posts on Tuesday. Three won seats in state legislatures and five won races at the local level. While it doesn’t seem as though any of them entered the US Capitol, they were confirmed to be at the rally which preceded it to show their support for the narrative that Donald Trump won the 2020 election. Dozens more Republican elected officials were at the rally on January 6th and some even spoke at it like Representatives Mo Brooks and Madison Cawthorn. Surely, many of them will get reelected when they face the voters again in the 2022 midterms. One of the Republicans who got elected into office for the first time this week (who wasn’t at the rally) is New Jersey truck driver Edward Durr, who is now a state senator-elect. When asked on Fox News Primetime what the first thing that he’s going to do when he gets to work is, he said, “I really don’t know. That’s the key factor. I don’t know what I don’t know. So, I will learn what I need to know.” The Republican Party is not bringing their best in many of these candidates and yet they’re still finding ways to defeat their Democratic challengers.
