Raphael Warnock has defeated Herschel Walker in the Georgia Senate runoff election by a margin of 51.4% to 48.6%. This means that Democrats will increase their majority in the Senate from fifty seats to fifty-one, giving them more margin of error when it comes to things like confirming executive and judicial nominations. Warnock said in his victory speech, “it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy: the people have spoken.” Shortly before Warncok’s victory speech, Walker spoke to his supporters and conceded the race, saying running for office was the honor of a lifetime. Donald Trump responded to the election results on Truth Social, simply posting, “OUR COUNTRY IS IN BIG TROUBLE. WHAT A MESS!” This is another loss for a hand-picked Trumpian candidate and another lesson for Republicans that they will continue to lose so long as they have the failed former president as their leader.
