Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is now claiming that he coordinated with the Trump White House on the events of January 6th. The Infowars host made the claim last week that he even put up $500,000 of his own money to make it happen. Jones said, “the White House told me three days before, ‘we’re going to have you lead the march.’” He went on to say that 30 minutes before the end of Trump’s speech at the Rotunda, the Secret Service planned to take Jones out of the crowd to the spot where the march was supposed to begin. He went on to say, “Trump will tell people, ‘go and I’m going to meet you at the Capitol.’” Jones’s statements are basically a full-on admission about his involvement in the riots, although he can always hide behind saying he did not intend for the rally to get violent.
It’s important to keep in mind that Alex Jones lies all the time and this could be yet another lie from him. But even if one iota of this is true it would be immensely disconcerting to think any White House official would be coordinating events with someone as crazy as Alex Jones. Despite his lie-riddled track record, there are some reasons to hear out Jones’s claims on this one. The Infowars host is not the first person to suggest that some of Trump’s White House officials were involved in the planning of the Capitol riots. Media Matters previously surfaced video of Ali Alexander, a so-called “Stop the Steal” organizer, bragging about being “on the phone” with “people from the White House” and seemed to encourage physical violence. It’ll be interesting to see where this story goes, if the phone records ever come out, and if Alex Jones himself will be targeted by the FBI for his role in the day’s events.
