Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has been ordered to pay nearly a billion dollars to the Sandy Hook families he defamed. The jury awarded $965 million to many of the 26 families plus an FBI agent who was a first responder to the mass shooting. This decision from Connecticut comes two months after a jury in Texas awarded nearly $50 million to the parents of another Sandy Hook victim and there’s still one more trial to go. Jones was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read but instead chose to go ballistic from the comfort of his studio and use it as an opportunity to fundraise from his audience. He said on air, “they want to scare everybody away from freedom and scare us away from questioning Uvalde and what really happened there, or Parkland, or any other event. And guess what? We’re not scared, and we’re not going away, and we’re not going to stop. . . . So please go to infowarsstore.com . . .” Jones can’t help but continue down the same path that got him in this mess in the first place, but this judgment is probably too large for even his gullible audience to bail him out of.
