The Liberation Will Be Televised
The Liberation Will Be Televised is a documentary project from Monique Straw, Thane Montgomery, Dino Maglaris, and Makeda Easter that gives voice to communities across America fighting racial injustice, amid the current backdrop of uprisings. In May 2020, George Floyd was brutally murdered by a white police officer who kneeled on his neck for over 8 minutes. His death followed the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other innocent Black people who have been unjustly killed in this country. George Floyd’s murder set off a ripple of uprisings across the nation, which continue today. LWB producers set off on June 5, traveling by car from Austin, Texas to Minneapolis, Minnesota over 10 days, stopping in several communities along the way including Tulsa, Kansas City, Chicago, and Louisville. Their goal was to investigate the ways in which these communities are responding to racial injustice and hear from those leading the movement.
