The legacy of the Wilmington massacre and coup of 1898 continues to resonate in North Carolina and beyond, all the while lawmakers in the state are trying to pass a bill that would ban the teaching of critical race theory and would prohibit schools from inviting speakers to discuss issues like the Wilmington massacre.
