There are surely plenty of questions for reporters to ask White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about. The coronavirus stimulus bill is about to be signed into law, the next step for a minimum wage hike is unclear, and there remain plenty of concerns about immigration and foreign policy in the Biden White House. However, for whatever reason, journalists are often wasting everyone’s time with the questions they’ve been asking at the briefings.
Joe Biden’s younger dog “Major” bit someone at the White House earlier this month. The individual is presumed to be a Secret Service agent and is doing okay. The incident led to both of Biden’s dogs being relocated to their residence in Delaware, at least for the time being. Two reporters asked about the bite and the decision to move the dogs in the most dramatic ways possible. Psaki was asked if she could assure the American public that Major Biden will not be euthanized over the incident. She confirmed that Major is part of the family and will not be put down. Later in the press briefing, a reporter asked about whether the Bidens are considering getting a cat. Psaki responded, “I don’t have any update on the cat.” While these cutesy questions provide some levity, suffice it to say way too much of this press conference was focused on presidential pets.
