Gay Republicans are starting to realize they don’t have a home in the Republican Party. Once the Supreme Court effectively legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, the issue seemed settled, and it looked like the right-wing no longer had an interest in fighting that battle. This made some LGBT folks more fiscally conservative and comfortable with voting for Republicans, in many cases for the first time. Ever since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and the Supreme Court making it clear they’re willing to roll back other constitutional rights, the right has started to think about undoing Obergefell vs. Hodges as the next possible win for them. The Log Cabin Republicans, a gay conservatives group, are starting to accept that they failed to win over their fellow conservatives on the gay rights issue and that maybe the Republican Party isn’t the home for them.
