The US Army is beginning to discharge members who refuse the COVID vaccine. After plenty of notice and a long grace period, the military branch is finally following through with its commitment. The Army is making an exception for those who have an approved or pending exemption, such as for a medical or religious reason.
It’s important that the military is following through with its promise to start discharging service members who are not battle-ready, as anything else would be going back on its word and could lead to distrust over future policy decisions.
The vast majority of service members don’t really have a legitimate reason to refuse the vaccine, especially when they took up to dozens of other vaccines without complaint. It’s not at all logical for service members to argue that while it was acceptable for them to accept all of those other vaccines, for some reason this one is a violation of their personal rights.
