Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed that he has not spoken to Donald Trump in about five weeks and he has not briefed Trump in any serious manner in two months. This didn’t come as too much of a surprise, as the coronavirus press conferences ended many weeks ago and the White House has been trying to hide Fauci since May. In an attempt to discredit him, the administration released a list of claims about the virus made by Fauci that later turned out to be wrong. (Of course, Trump himself said we have 15 cases that will soon go down to 0 and recommended that people ingest disinfectant.)
Tensions between Trump and Fauci could heat up as the virus gets worse and it may lead to Fauci getting fired. However, in the court of public opinion that would likely be a disaster for Trump. Americans overwhelmingly trust Fauci on the virus over Trump. Trump had an opportunity to listen to Fauci and act more boldly on combating the virus. Instead, he has fractured the country’s opinion on the virus even as new records get set every day.
