Donald Trump delivered what he said was the most important speech of his presidency. Despite the US setting new coronavirus case and death records, Trump chose to address the nation on a topic far more important to him — himself. Trump spoke for forty-five minutes about the “massive dumps” that cost him the election in Wisconsin and Michigan. Likewise, he had complaints about Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Taking a page out of Kayleigh McEnany’s playbook, the president was armed with charts showing spikes in vote tallies for Joe Biden at the time mail-in votes were counted. These can be attributed to Trump telling his supporters for months to forgo voting by mail in order to vote in person.
Trump claimed during the speech that just about everyone is in on the election rigging, including Republican politicians and judges who keep tossing his cases out of court. He said that “Biden can’t be president” with all of these irregularities, so Trump is in for a rude awakening on January 20th when Biden is sworn in as the new Commander in Chief. A few weeks ago, this speech might have been taken more seriously as the possibility of a Trump coup was still on the table. Now, we can see it for what it is — the rantings of a madman who cannot accept that he simply lost an election.
