Donald Trump is privately confirming what many of us suspected to be the case and that is that he plans on running for president again in 2024. This move has been anticipated ever since Joe Biden was inaugurated as the nation’s 46th president. An overwhelming number of Republican voters say they would support another Trump run and the nomination is clearly his for the taking if he wants it. Recently on Maria Bartiromo’s show, Trump said that he knows what his answer will be on 2024 but he can’t say it just yet because of campaign finance reasons. A new report from the Rolling Stone’s Andy Kroll says that Trump has told at least three of his dinner buddies that he plans to run in the next election. The first two dinner conversations happened in late spring and the third dinner conversation happened just a few weeks ago.
There is some possibility that Trump is telling people he’s going to run for president but has no actual plans to do so. Michael Cohen, Trump’s longtime attorney and fixer, has said that he doesn’t believe Trump will seek a second term in 2024. There’s also the possibility that between now and then, Trump’s health and old age prevent him from being able to launch a run, as he will be 78 years old by then. If the former president is able to run again, the country will have not only have to brace itself for if he wins, but also for if he loses given the events of January 6th. Defeating Trump in 2020 was probably not the end for him, and Democrats and left-leaning independents may have to do everything they can to make sure he’s beaten once and for all in 2024.
