Donald Trump wasted no time attacking Ron DeSantis after DeSantis won big in Florida on Tuesday night while most of the Trump-backed candidates were defeated across the country. Trump posted a series of messages to Truth Social, saying “Now that the Election in Florida is over, and everything went quite well, shouldn’t it be said that in 2020, I got 1.1 Million more votes in Florida than Ron D got this year, 5.7 Million to 4.6 Million? Just asking?” Of course, it’s not fair to compare a presidential election to a midterm since presidential elections always have a higher turnout. But this post was meant to appeal to low-information voters who make up a large part of Trump’s supporters. The former president also posted, “…219 WINS against 16 LOSSES IN THE GENERAL ELECTION, and yet the Fake News writes only unrecognizable junk. No wonder they are all doing sooo badly!” Trump mostly just endorsed incumbent Republicans in safe red areas which explains his win total, while the losses were all hugely consequential and viewed as winnable races for Republicans going into Tuesday night.
