Donald Trump got booed by his own supporters this week for promoting the COVID vaccine and saying that he got the booster shot. Trump was on tour with Bill O’Reilly at another one of his events which failed to draw a sizable crowd. He urged the audience to “take credit” for the vaccine because Operation Warp Speed, which took place under his administration, got the shots developed for the American public in record time.
He said, “take credit for it. What we’ve done is historic. Don’t let them take it away. Don’t take it away from ourselves. You’re playing right into their hands.” O’Reilly followed up by mentioning that both he and the ex-president were fully vaccinated and boosted. When some audience members started to boo and jeer them, Trump waved his hand at the crowd and said, “don’t, don’t, don’t.”
While it’s definitely a positive thing that Trump’s saying he got vaccinated, the boos explain why he was hesitant to ever give a full-fledged endorsement of the vaccines. Vaccine skepticism is rampant among Trump supporters and he worries more about them turning on him than he does people needlessly dying of COVID.
