Donald Trump will indeed be endorsing in the 2022 midterms the candidates who promoted “the big lie” about the 2020 election. Ever since the attempts to overturn the last election failed, there has been speculation that if Trump could get more agreeable people in positions of power, then a soft coup could actually work for him in the next election cycle. The former president alluded to this in a recent video message when he said, “sometimes the vote counter is more important than the candidate and we can’t let that ever happen again.
They have to get tougher and smarter.” Now, Trump and his allies are backing a number of candidates around the country. One such candidate is Matthew DePerno, who is running to become the Attorney General of Michigan. DePerno has been a promoter of debunked 2020 election fraud conspiracy theories. Trump plans on holding a fundraiser for him in Mar-a-Lago on March 8th. With rewards like this one, it’s easy to see how other Republican candidates will be incentivized to also push “the big lie” if they too want to raise money and win their races.
