According to a new poll from Reuters/Ipsos, former President Donald Trump has gained significant support among Republican voters since his indictment and arrest in connection with the New York hush money payment investigation. Trump is currently polling at 58%, with Ron DeSantis trailing far behind at 21%. Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have both officially declared their candidacies are registering only one percent a piece. While it is important to note that one poll does not necessarily indicate a trend, Trump's growing support among Republicans is notable, especially considering he may face more charges soon in Georgia and Washington DC. If he continues building momentum, the primary race could be over before it starts. This is because DeSantis may now be hesitant to announce his candidacy, given Trump's significant lead in the polls. Despite Trump's unpopularity among the general public, many Republicans remain loyal to him, even if it is ultimately detrimental to the party's electoral prospects.
