It’s been confirmed that Donald Trump had top-secret material containing nuclear information in the boxes he kept in his basement at Mar-a-Lago. One specific document had to do with a foreign country’s defense capabilities including intelligence on its nuclear weapons. This type of information is so secret that even most senior intelligence officials can’t get their hands on it and it’s reserved only for people with special clearances on a need-to-know basis. Speculation is now brewing about why the former president would want to keep nuclear secrets in his home. One idea is that he intended on selling them to other countries as a way to personally profit. If so, the crimes Trump would need to be investigated for would extend far beyond the Espionage Act and concealing government documents. Depending on Trump’s motives with the nuclear secrets, this could amount to treason which would bring with it serious consequences.
