The NAACP has issued a travel advisory in response to the actions taken by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which include banning books about race and LGBT identity, rejecting a new African-American studies class, and prohibiting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida colleges. The advisory warns that Florida openly exhibits hostility towards people of color and LGBT individuals, and emphasizes that Florida public schools fail to provide accurate African American history education. While the advisory may not be interpreted as a literal travel warning for most visitors, they believe its purpose is to draw attention to the regressive policies in Florida that disproportionately impact marginalized communities. The NAACP's declaration serves as a reminder of the concerning direction DeSantis is taking Florida in and the significance of this should not be overlooked.
