Last week, Utah Senator Mitt Romney went on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash and touched on the problem with having crazy people serving as lawmakers in his own party. Much of the interview focused around Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but then Bash asked the senator about GOP Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar speaking at the white nationalist conference “America First PAC.” Romney responded, “there’s no place in either political party for this white nationalism or racism. It’s simply wrong.
As you’ve indicated, speaking of evil, it’s evil as well. And you know, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, I don’t know them but I’m reminded of that old line from ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ movie where one character says, ‘morons, I’ve got morons on my team.’ And I have to think anybody that would sit down with white nationalists and speak at their conference was certainly missing a few IQ points.” While Romney is wrong when it comes to a number of political issues, it can’t be denied that if he was still the standard-bearer in the Republican Party, the country would be in a much better place right now.
