David Pakman discusses the second day of the 2020 Republican National Convention which was full of non-stop lies. Mary Ann Mendoza, whose police officer son was killed by a drunk driver, had been included in a list of expected speakers according to the Trump campaign earlier Tuesday evening. When it became known that she had retweeted a thread promoting anti-Semitic conspiracies, they pulled her from the evening's program. Instead we were left to hear about corruption from one of the most corrupt Attorney Generals in Florida’s history, Pam Bondi. Two of Donald Trump’s children, Eric and Tiffany, also gave milquetoast speeches.
The night was capped off with a speech from First Lady Melania Trump. Melania’s speech was less political and less fawning of the president than other speeches. Still there were cringey moments, like when she called on the nation to stop the violence, looting, and racism without laying out a plan as to how. The First Lady’s speech didn’t really have a coherent narrative or tie into why she thinks her husband should be reelected.
