Joe Biden delivered his first official State of the Union address last night and it was an overall decent performance. The beginning and end of the speech were strong, but the middle had some issues with pep, pacing, and lack of detail. Biden opened the speech talking about the ongoing situation in Ukraine, which got a lot of bipartisan support. The president announced a new ban on Russian aircraft entering US airspace and pledged his support for the Ukrainian people.
Another notable moment was when he correctly pointed out that Donald Trump’s tax cuts disproportionately benefited the rich, which Republicans booed. GOP members, however, applauded when Biden called for securing the southern border and funding police departments. The president had a few awkward moments like when he confused Iranians with Ukrainians, but all in all, it was a relatively normal address and Biden turned in a suitable performance.
