How Black Mothers in Nevada Fought for Welfare Rights and Dignity
A new documentary examines the inspiring story of how low-income Black mothers in Nevada took on government officials over welfare rights. Led by the fearless matriarch Ruby Duncan, women in the 1960s and 70s organized against sexist and racist targeting, stormed Las Vegas strip hotels, and engaged in creative forms of disruption to make their demands. Telling the story of what happened is a new documentary called Storming Caesar’s Palace, airing on PBS stations. The film is also currently available to stream for free on the PBS app.
