Gay USA 6/17/20

On Gay USA 6/17/20:

∎ The US Supreme Court rules that gay, lesbian, bi, and transgender people are protected from employment discrimination under the federal 1964 Civil Rights Act. Our guest for our first half hour is attorney James Esseks of the ACLU LGBT & HIV Project, an attorney for the late Aimee Stephens and the late Donald Zarda in the landmark Supreme Court cases.
∎ As trans people of color continue to be murdered at alarming rates, the largest demonstrations in history for Black Trans Lives are held from coast to coast.
∎ President Trump used the fourth anniversary of the Pulse Massacre to deny healthcare under the Affordable Care Act to transgender people and to women in general.
∎ An Egyptian LGBT activist who had been imprisoned and tortured for flying a rainbow flag takes her own life in exile.

Gay USA, the longest-running LGBT news show in history, offers comprehensive news and analysis by and about the LGBTQ community. The program features lively repartee between hosts Ann Northrop and Andy Humm, as well as interviews with special guests. Our goal each week is to keep our viewers up-to-date on the latest developments in the LGBTQ+ community in the United States and abroad.  With decades of experience in journalism and activism, we work diligently to provide historical context for the stories we cover. We strongly believe in LGBT liberation, but we aim to be fair to those who oppose us. Gay USA works to provide a critical perspective on the groups within our movements working to change things.
