A Texas federal judge has ruled that the DACA program is unconstitutional and can no longer accept new applications. Obama instituted DACA to give protection to undocumented immigrants who arrived here as children, but the program is constantly under attack by Republicans.

The ruling doesn’t impact the more than 600,000 immigrants already enrolled, but it creates yet more uncertainty and fear for these young people, often called DREAMERS.

As my grandfather Corky Gonzales, the Chicano activist and political organizer said in his epic poem Yo Soy Joaquín:

“The odds are great but my spirit is strong, my faith unbreakable.” 

These young dreamers have been used as political pawns but despite that, their spirit is strong and they continue to fight. They are calling on Congress to pass a pathway to citizenship this year to ensure their future. They can’t wait. You can find out more at unitedwedream.org.
