“Do the Work” An Anti-Racist Activity Book
During the 2020 mass racial justice uprisings, many Americans understood for the first time that racist police brutality was a critically important issue. While millions took to the streets of U.S. cities demanding change, some people engaged in purely symbolic gestures–such as posting black squares to their Instagram accounts.
W. Kamau Bell, together with his co-author Kate Schatz has a new book for those who want to take action but don’t know where to start. Do The Work: An Antiracist Activity Book is an extensive primer into white supremacy in the U.S., its history, its impact, and how people of color are leading the fight for justice.
Chock full of questionnaires, coloring pages, crossword puzzles, and starting points for self-directed research, Do the Work has a fore-word by Alica Garza, founder of the Black Futures Lab.
Bell spoke with Yes Magazine, where you can read the transcript of this conversation at yesmagazine.org.
