Fox News host Leland Vittert had Erin Perrine, Trump campaign director of press communications, on his program to discuss allegations of voter fraud in the 2020 election. Vittert is certainly no left-winger but he was able to hold Perrine’s feet to the fire and assert that even if Trump got what he wanted out of these lawsuits, they wouldn’t do nearly enough to overturn the results of the election. Perrine insisted that the courts keep finding merit to the claims they have made, which they haven’t been. The vast majority of Trump’s frivolous lawsuits are getting thrown out almost immediately. When pressed, Perrine reverted to the talking point that they just want to make sure “legal votes” are counted and that “illegal votes” are not counted, as if that’s what’s at issue here.
Vittert pressed Perrine on the point that EVEN IF trump got his way, either to recount or throw out some batch of votes — none of it would overturn the election results. That is exactly what Perrine refuses to admit. There is no path to victory for Trump at this point. Even if he could throw out election results in one state due to impropriety, he would still have to find two or three more states to overturn. The recount in Georgia is almost over and there’s no sign that Trump can overcome the 14,000 vote margin. But until December 14th when the Electoral College makes the count official, we will be hearing about this nonsense from Trump allies and the right wing in general.
