Born in California to Dominican and Mexican parents; but raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Mireya Ramos moved to New York City as a teen to pursue her musical career. Her music embodies a wide variety of musical influences: from mariachi, and salsa to merengue, and hip-hop, and weaves a unique and refreshing musical blend. Seeing a cultural and generational divide in Latin music, she founded the first-ever all-female mariachi band, Flor de Toloache. In this clip, Ramos discusses the differences that an all-female mariachi band. She discussed the creative opportunity to share personalized songs with her audiences, as well as the struggle that comes with the territory.
