Republican Congressman Byron Donalds and Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman engaged in a debate this week on the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C. The discussion lacked deep policy substance but was considered a refreshing change from the recent political discourse. During the debate, Bowman listed out a number of Joe Biden’s policy accomplishments, while Byron Donalds could only respond with a simple “no” to everything. Donalds made the argument that his home state of Florida has two strong Republican options for president in 2024, Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. Bowman did his best to dismiss the assertion as absurd and argue that Joe Biden can defeat either one of those candidates. While this back and forth didn’t get deep into policy, it was still healthier discourse than that which is typically displayed within the halls of Congress.
