One of the reasons Fox News is able to stay as dominant as they are in the cable news space is that they are often a mandatory channel for cable subscription packages. Even if someone doesn’t want to watch or pay for Fox News, some of their money ends up going to the network and there’s no way out of it unless they want to cut the cord altogether. The average cable subscriber is paying Fox News about two dollars per month or twenty dollars per year. This is part of the reason why advertiser boycotts don’t do too much to affect Fox since most of its money is coming directly from these cable subscription packages. The only way to put a stop to this is for a mass campaign of people to contact their cable providers and request that Fox News becomes an optional channel that people don’t have to pay for if they don’t want to.
