Building Tech Infrastructure for a World Without Police
Among the most common counter-arguments to police abolition is the question of what to do in an emergency. In 2017, a group of Black-led tech entrepreneurs created an independent online police reporting service. Some years later, realizing that it did little to curb police violence, the group, named RAHEEM, pivoted to building a new system, called PATCH. Its creators call it, “an unprecedented, nationwide network of mobile crisis teams, health, and social services, and abolitionist organizations responding to crises with care, not violence.”
Rising Up with Sonali is a radio and television show that brings progressive news coverage rooted in gender and racial justice to a wide audience. Rising Up With Sonali was built on the foundation of Sonali Kolhatkar's earlier show, Uprising, which became the longest-running drive-time radio show on KPFK in Los Angeles hosted by a woman.
