The Trump Organization was found guilty on all seventeen counts of tax fraud and other financial crimes. It was determined that the Trump Org would give out unreported benefits to executives, including luxury apartment rents, car leases, and education expenses. The investigation previously resulted in a guilty plea from the company’s CFO Allen Weisselberg. He went on to participate in the probe but did not turn on Donald Trump himself. The penalties will likely be minor and any fines levied will be easily afforded by a company this large. Trump was not personally charged in this case, which seems like legal malpractice since it is believed he sanctioned some of the tax fraud. At the very least, the conviction of the company could provide material for Trump’s political opponents during his 2024 presidential campaign.
